About Me

Hello Everyone,

My name is Dallas Aasand, and I am building a Van”s RV-9A. I live outside of Dallas, Texas, and work for an airline based in Dallas. I was raised around airplanes. My father is an A&P with IA, and rebuilt a Piper Colt as I was growing up. This led me to fall in love with aviation, and I knew I wanted to be in aviation professionally.

After I graduated high school, I attended Mississippi State University and majored in Aerospace Engineering with a concentration in Aeronautics. One summer I was lucky enough to intern with a major general aviation manufacturer in Wichita, KS. While an intern, I took advantage of the company”s flying club. I was able to work towards my private pilot training, and two days before the end of the internship, I became a certificated pilot. I loved the internship so much, I decided to take a full time position after college.

After several years, I was approached with an opportunity to work for an airline. It was a new adventure that I could not pass up. I packed up, and moved to Texas and began the new position. I wanted to start flying while in Texas, but the high prices of the Dallas-Metro Area made it impossible to fly. I started to think of different options to fly. One day, I stumbled upon Van”s Aircraft.

After doing some research, I was pondering if I could build my own airplane. After talking with my dad, I determined it was something I wanted to pursue. I decided on the RV-9A because of it cross-country capabilities, reliable O-320 engine, and with the numerous aircraft already built, I assume answers to questions would be easy to find.

After over a year of research, research, more research, and some saving, I was able to order the tail kit for the RV-9A. Now the real challenge begins. Feel free to follow along on this builder site. I hope to update frequently, post pictures, and discuss difficulties, so follow along.
